SMAC HISTORY

In 2005, Sheppard Air Force Base and it’s civilian neighbors were challenged with a serious wake-up call when the “BRAC” (Base Realignment and Closure) Commission announced basic medical training would leave Sheppard. It was estimated the departure of this mission would result in a staggering $48 million annual loss to our area economy. As a result, key community leaders throughout Wichita County established the Sheppard Military Affairs Committee (SMAC).

Our Commitment

To help protect the future of Sheppard Air Force Base, to communicate our concerns and to not only maintain, but strengthen our base/community relationship
